Year in, year out, sun and rain, snow and ice – that can throw a caster off balance, but it doesn’thave to. Seeing that temperature changes and humidity make each caster unusable due to rust within a very short time, the surfaces of all TENTE’s steel components are refined as a matter of principle. These parts are predominantly zinc coated, whereby the chroming has a significant influence on the surface protection. If that still isn’t enough for you, then you should choose rustproof TENTE casters made of stainless steel.
Better safe than sorry!

A caster should always travel firmly on the floor. Yet that is mostly pure theory. casters always briefly lose contact with the floor on uneven surfaces, at door thresholds, tracks and also in potholes. They are suddenly overloaded or only three of the four casters touch the ground, and have to bear the whole load. This must be taken into consideration when calculating the load capacity. The following formula therefore provides the necessary safety reserves: Tare-weight of the device plus load divided by three. All load capacities given in this catalogue have been determined according to EN 12526 to 12533 for dynamic loading. Additional static load-bearing capacity information is given on our homepage.

A resistance has to be overcome with a force to get an object on casters moving or to steer it. The level of this resistance depends on various factors: load, wheel diameter, material and shape of the tread, overhang of the caster, type and size of the bearings and of course on the ground on which the caster runs. Therefore, when choosing the right caster, it is important to carefully adjust all these factors to each other. You know the effect: If a nonconducting material, e.g. plastic, has been charged through friction and the potential is unable to flow away, it discharges with the next earthed contact. This happens when touching a car door for example. What is only irritating there can have serious consequences elsewhere. However electrically conducting TENTE casters protect against this with a leakage resistance of < 10,000 ohm. We guarantee this by carrying out a one hundred percent quality inspection, during which each wheel is tested under 500 volts direct voltage before leaving our factory.

Chalking is the mechanical attrition of loaded casters. It cannot be avoided – especially in elastic tyres, however it can be easily removed from the floor using simple cleaning agents. The severity of the attrition depends on the quality of the rubber used for the wheel.

Many business and domestic rooms are fitted with delicate floorings (e.g. wood). Each floor may only be loaded to a certain pressure per mm2. Therefore, when choosing a caster, particular attention has to be paid to the loading and tread of the wheel. Hard floor – soft wheel, soft floor – hard wheel. This simple rule of thumb can be used to match the floor and the wheel. A hard wheel passes impacts caused by irregularities in the floor directly on to the loads carried. Unpleasant travel noises can result. TENTE casters with elastic treads made of rubber or polyurethane help in this case. With the hybrid wheel (HUR) consisting of a hard polyamide tread and a soft rubber core, we can even provide you with a hard, noise-dampening wheel.
